Smyths Toys to Open Second Corby Site in Mega Warehouse at Midlands Logistics Park
A major toy retailer will open its second Corby warehouse after picking up the last unit in Midlands flagship logistics park.
Family-owned Smyths Toys has entered into a long lease on the last empty unit in Geddington Road Logistics Park – directly across from its existing 500,000 square foot warehouse in Max Park.
The 248,000 square foot Arrow 248 warehouse is located adjacent to the site’s other large hangars that house Europa, BSH Home Appliances and Eddie Stobart.
Arrow Capital Partners funded the development of the unit last year and kept original developer Mulberry to complete it.
Smyths, which claims to be Europe’s largest and fastest growing toy retailer, will use the new facility to support its continued expansion in the UK, online and in-store. Workers have already started fitting it out and Smyths hopes to move in by July.
The company has more than 100 stores in the UK and Ireland as well as nearly 100 in Europe that it acquired from Toys R Us.
Robert Howe, Head of European Real Estate at Arrow, said: “Arrow 248 is an excellent example of our strategy of providing high quality, institutional grade distribution facilities in tight supply markets.
“We are delighted to have had the opportunity to partner with Mulberry Developments, who have excelled in providing another top-notch facility, and to have built on the existing success and status of Midlands Logistics Park in renting the unit to such a high standard. -quality tenant.
“We plan to invest an additional £ 250million in logistics development opportunities in the UK over the next two years, with further announcements to follow shortly.”
The warehouse was built on a former 150-acre steel mill quarry that housed the Stanion Plantation in recent years. Planning for a second similar site across the road at Cowthick Plantation was also granted despite numerous objections from locals.
