Scottish election 2021 result live – SNP majority ‘in balance’ as London mayor’s race draws closer than expected
The SNP is gathering momentum and has just over 30 seats to win a fourth term in government, but it is still too early to decide whether the party will enter the Scottish Parliament with a majority or rely on the support of allies such as the Scottish Greens.
Nicola Sturgeon said earlier that the prospect “is at stake”, admitting it would still be a “very, very long blow” for her party to secure a majority in Holyrood after initial results suggest changes to the Labor Party and to the Conservatives in the Scottish Key. seats.
The Scottish Prime Minister, however, said she was “extremely happy and extremely confident” that her party was on track to victory after some major successes, including winning East Lothian and Ayr from both the Scottish Labor Party and the preservatives respectively. Ayr had previously been held by the Tories since 2000.
Meanwhile, the election of the mayor of London for mayor of London, seen as a two-man race between Sadiq Khan of Labor and Shaun Bailey of the Tories, is much closer than initially expected. Mr Kahn’s team blamed the low voter turnout for the low margin.
In Wales, the Tories won the Clwyd Valley for the first time in the history of the siege. It was previously owned by Ann Jones of Labor since 1999 before stepping down ahead of that election, but was taken today by curator Gareth Davies.
Earlier, Boris Johnson’s Tories had taken the seat of Labor’s ‘red wall’ stronghold in Hartlepool, winning the constituency for the first time since its inception nearly 50 years ago.
Conservative candidate Jill Mortimer won an impressive majority of nearly 7,000 in the crucial by-election competition. Mr Johnson credited the ‘rebound’ of the Covid crisis and ‘the making of Brexit’ for the anticipated electoral successes.
Labor leader Sir Keir Starmer has been urged to ‘change direction’ as he faces a backlash from the left. “It is impossible to blame Jeremy Corbyn for this result,” said Diane Abbott, a close ally of the former leader.
