Switzerland suspends most Geneva hub operations due to COVID measures
03.02.2021 – 01:32 UTC
Swiss (LX, Zurich) has announced that it will suspend almost all of its flights from its secondary hub in Geneva in response to the newly introduced stricter border restrictions, including the requirement for all arriving travelers to present a PCR test negative.
âThis measure is taken because the Swiss Geneva services are point-to-point operations that do not generate additional revenue through a power function (as is the case at the Swiss hub in Zurich). Geneva airport also currently lacks passenger screening facilities â. said the airline.
Therefore, the carrier said that until the end of February, it would only connect Geneva to Zurich (13 times per week) and Frankfurt Int’l (daily) to ensure hub connectivity for French-speaking Switzerland. He stressed his long-term commitment to Geneva as a secondary hub and said that as soon as travel restrictions allow more travel and require returns, he will rebuild his point-to-point network from the city.
The carrier added that it has also reduced its frequencies from Zurich and is currently operating at around 10% of capacity last February.
